Church Assembly

Families and friends are very welcome to join Father Robert and the children for our monthly Church Assembly on Monday, 12th October at 2.30pm.

Please join us in the school hall after our church service for tea and cakes!  Donations of cakes and biscuits would be greatly appreciated.  These should be brought into school on Monday morning.

PTA News

Christmas Fair

The PTA will be running a stall at the Binegar village Christmas Fair which will take place in the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 28th November.  We were thinking of a cake tombola, which proved very popular at the last fair.  We would welcome donations of cakes and also volunteers to man the stall.

Quiz Night

The George Inn is under new management and they have kindly offered to run a quiz night in aid of PTA funds, to include a free ploughman’s supper – the only thing we need to do is sell the tickets!  Provisional dates are Sunday, 22nd November or Sunday, 6th December.  Please let Bridget Kerton or Karen Weller know which date is best for you.

Ted’s Big Day Out

We shall be helping to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Ted’s Big Day Out on Friday, 16th October.  Children will be able to wear mufti and bring their teddies to school for the day in return for a minimum donation of £1.  All money raised will be donated to the ‘Space to Grow’ Campaign which supports the care of sick and premature babies at the RUH, so please give generously.

School Meals

Thank you to those parents who have shown an interest in having a school meal delivered from the Oakhill kitchen.  We need to provide Somerset Catering Services with definite numbers to discuss whether the idea is viable, so could you please let the school office know as soon as possible if your child is interested.

Celebration Assembly

Well done to the following children who were awarded certificate in our Celebration Assembly this week:

Jacob for superb work in Power of 2 and Toe by Toe

Kyle for learning all his words for the Harvest Festival service and speaking clearly and confidently

Elly for spontaneously filling in so confidently for an absent child during our Harvest Festival service

Kai for asking lots of questions during our trip to the orchard

Owen for getting 18/18 three times in a row in addition club

The following children completed Team Point Cards this week:

Lilac:  Felix

Class 2 Merit Card Winner - Reuben

Shop Early for Christmas!

We are very grateful to Maria Rich for once again organising the orders from Webb Ivory.  The catalogue is being circulated, so please make time to browse through it.  All orders must be returned to Maria by 21st October so that items are dispatched in good time for Christmas.  Maria is happy to receive cash or cheques made payable to Mrs M Rich.

Class 1 Homework

Mrs Kerton and Mrs Hennessy are really pleased with all the homework being handed in from the children in Class 1.  We are keeping a record and prizes will be awarded at Christmas to those children who have done their homework every week.

Yr 6 Secondary School Applications

A final reminder that application forms for secondary schools must be returned to Somerset County Council or submitted online by 16th October.

Car Park

May we please ask parents not to drive into the staff car parking to drop off and collect children at the beginning and end of the school day.  We appreciate that parking is difficult, but the children’s safety is paramount, so please try to park a safe distance away from the car park entrance.

Shoebox Appeal

Our parents are always very supportive of this annual appeal and this year we hope to collect a record number of boxes.  Please add a couple of extra goodies to your shopping trolley this weekend and help to make this Christmas special for children less fortunate than ourselves.  Please see the attached leaflet for details of what items should be included in the boxes.

The charity asks for a donation of £2.50 to be included in each box towards distribution and transport costs.  All shoeboxes should please be brought to school during the first week after half term.

Return of Forms

A number of forms which were sent out to parents with Issue 1 are still outstanding.  It is essential that we hold up to date contact details for your child in case of an emergency, so please sign and return the Data Collection Sheet even if there are no amendments.  We must hold Consent Forms for visits within a 10 mile radius to enable your child to fully participate in school outings and activities.
